Nature sounds, nature sounds Sounds like little grains of sound Little grains of sand moved by winds through rocks Little grains, moving energy sounds, natural energies Moving sounds, like grains of sand Washed over the highest dune in Sahara Little grains of sand, like golden sand, moving, veiling Veiling sounds, like the breath... Like the breath... Like the breath…

about

Intergalactic Moonloonies Invade Mushroom Hill – a 6 volume compilation fundraiser featuring the very best in Krautrock, Ambient, Psychedelic Rock and Berlin School

AQUARIAN MOONS is a Spreaker live podcast which broadcasts every Saturday (20:00GMT, 21:00CET for europe, 12:00PST in the US) and can best be summed up as an eclectic blend of new and old recordings from the very loose genres of Spacerock, Krautrock, Ambient, Psychedelic Rock and Berlin School – and pretty much everything in between.

Together with an always vibrant chatroom, the regular DJ, Paul Higgins, manages to cram more music in three hours than most other playlists manage in a week. Always different, always exploring both the familiar and unfamiliar equally well, with an emphasis always on quality.

It was into this background that I discovered the show on the internet just over a year ago. I was instantly hooked by the styles of music, exactly the sorts of things I liked listening to; but this station was playing stuff I had never heard before. The more I got into the show, the more intrigued I became. Paul & Anita Higgins, the brains behind the show, make a point of buying everything they play from their own pockets. Now, that's quite a rarity in this day and age, and it got me thinking. As a musician myself, I felt that I could be doing something to help them buy more music – and in doing so, to help musicians get more airplay in return.

While online chatting to Kelrod (one of the regular listeners and sometimes contributor to the show) we came up with an insane idea, after just finishing up a collaboration for a track we had made exclusively for the show – "Hawk Spirit Flies over Mushroom Hill". The idea was this – could we help the show out by coming up with a fundraiser, an album dedicated to the station with contributions from many of those getting airplay? To put icing on top of the cake – could we come up with one where contributions were themed around Paul & Anita's new residence – Mushroom Hill, or something to do with Aquarian Moons?

We decided, after talking it through with Anita, to make this a complete surprise for Paul. And floated the idea out to the regulars on the show, expecting maybe five or six replies.

And here we are, three months later, with forty-two tracks, spread over six CD-length volumes! A truly mind-blowing response, from some of the best artists in their respective fields, and most took up our offer to create something especially for this fundraiser to boot. Many of these tracks will not be found anywhere else.

I'd like to thank all of those who have contributed their time and energy to contributing and allowing all the profits to go back into Aquarian Moons. Not just the music, but also the art and graphics design (Kelrod “Kommander” Kilwalski) and the two faithful minions (Anita “The Goddess” and Sean “The FAQ Sheriff”) who both helped tremendously in tracking artists down and offering an incredible amount of moral support to see this gigantic undertaking through to completion.

I truly hope you enjoy listening to this music as much as I enjoyed compiling it!

And we all hope to see you on the chatrooms every Saturday – the website address for the show is www.spreaker.com/show/aquarian-moons
